Greatwide to manage Tyson Foods’ owner-operator fleet
Greatwide Logistics Services has entered into a five-year agreement to manage the owner-operator based transportation services of Tyson Foods, the world’s largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef and pork products. Greatwide will provide transportation services to Tyson by engaging an estimated 300 owner-operators and their equipment. The agreement does not affect Tyson’s private fleet of 1,000 company trucks or its relationship with third-party trucking companies.

CFI named the following driver award recipients for November 2006: Company Driver—George Cook, Arlington, TX; Company Team—Gary Sarinana and Ana Ochoa, El Paso, TX; Contractor Driver—Esteban Cam-pos, Somerset, TX; Contractor Team—Allen & Marian Bruton, Tulsa, OK. Each driver and team is automatically nominated for the 2006 year-end award in their respective category.

Driver advances quickly at Covenant
Covenant Transport senior training instructor Steve Fraser’s career advancement began as a company driver six years ago. Since then, Fraser’s responsibilities have progressed to becoming a driver trainer to earning his current position as a training instructor. He received his driver education at a Covenant and immediately knew that Covenant Transport was the company he would re-main with throughout his career. “From the beginning, Covenant was built on the foundation that its drivers are the primary concern, and I have truly seen that in working here,” Fraser says.

Maverick Specialized boosts pay for company drivers
Maverick Specialized, a division of Maverick
Transportation, raised pay for current and potential drivers. Under the new plan, Maverick Specialized will offer starting pay of 40-41 cents per mile for company drivers with experience and starting pay of 37-40 cents per mile in both its student and trainee programs.

Hill Bros. delivers for Toys for Tots
Employees and drivers at Hill Bros. Transportation pulled together in a friendly competition this holiday season to see who could donate the most toys to their annual Toys for Tots drive. Staff from every department at Hill Bros. got involved. As of Dec. 15, 2006, a total of 1,431 toys had been donated to the cause, making this Hill Bros.’ most successful Toys for Tots drive ever.

Southern Cal offers opportunities
Southern Cal Transport will increase their base of teams in the Southern California market as a result of increased freight in the area. “The bottom line is that we have more freight than we can handle in that area right now and it provides some fantastic opportunities for teams living in the Southern California area to achieve that perfect balance of home time and miles that everyone is looking for,” explains Recruiting Manager Cliff Abbott.
