Driven Women
Stop making trucking look good
Dear GG,
The reason I don’t want my wife in the truck is because I don’t want her getting fat or becoming as butch as some of these trucker chicks. I’d appreciate it if you’d stop making trucking look like fun, when it’s hard work and takes skill to do. You don’t make it easy for guys to explain to their wives and girlfriends why they need to keep their butts at home with the kids.
I don’t cheat on my wife, and she don’t cheat on me. We live a simple life, and I want to keep it that way. So don’t put ideas into her head about teaming with me. It ain’t gonna happen.
Trucker John, Minnesota
Dear Trucker John,
Clearly you’re much like a Greek God, Hercules or maybe a knight in shining armor. You have saved your wife a life of misery, pain and sorrow. Saved her, I say! Oh, to be the woman behind the steed that is Trucker John. Get a grip.
All your wife knows is that she deals with the daily issues and responsibilities of a home, raising children and working. She has limited help from you and knows that you get to travel the country. She doesn’t see the long, lonely hours; she sees that all you have to do is drive straight and far. She doesn’t see that you have to deal with ridiculous timelines and demanding shippers; she sees that as socializing and doing something important.
I’m going to chalk the “fat, butch” comment, along with your entire note, up to your being an emaciated, impotent trucker, and let it go. Happy trails to you.
Cheers,
GG
