Sherry and Steven Zoschke
Covenant Transport, Inc.
After discovering her sister was diagnosed with spinal cancer, Sherry Zoschke was determined to find a career that would allow her to spend as much time as she needed with her ailing sibling. As a pediatric nurse, the two weeks a year that she could have off wasn’t going to be enough. She desperately needed a job that would give her some flexibility and that would be sensitive and understanding to her situation. Truck driving was the farthest thing from her mind. But after turning to prayer, she quickly discovered it was the answer to all her problems.
At the time, Sherry’s husband, Steven Zoschke, had been driving trucks for years, but they needed a company that would meet the needs of their delicate situation. With a combination of prayer, faith and support for one another, the couple found Covenant Transport. “We really believe God chose Covenant for us,” says Sherry. “It was the only company that had a family plan.” A family plan, which, because of Steven’s experience, wouldn’t require Sherry to go out with a trainer. In eight weeks she had her training complete and was considered a qualified driver.
Two and a half years later, it has been one of the greatest decisions of their lives. Sherry has twice been able to get off the truck to administer nursing care up to 10 days at a time while her sister went through a bone marrow transplant. With Covenant, they also didn’t miss out on seeing their son before he was deployed for a year overseas, and Steven, who hadn’t been home for Christmas in 20 years, was finally able to spend a Christmas with his aging parents.
In addition to family support, Covenant offers excellent pay and benefits packages. Most recently, the company implemented a new pay package for drivers and owner-operators. Solo drivers now earn up to 41¢ per mile, teams earn up to 45¢ per mile, and owner-operators receive up to $1.45 per mile. The Zoeschkes have taken advantage of money opportunities that can be made on the road and used it to pay off their debts.
It’s all of these things combined that have made Covenant their favorite choice in trucking. “Covenant is a great company to work for,” says Sherry. “It’s the good pay, benefits, a courteous staff, good communication with drivers and the positive attitude that makes us love Covenant Transport.”
As for the future, the couple plans on staying with Covenant until retirement. They feel privileged to have the opportunity to travel and see America and, at the same time, be there for family members when necessary. When not on the road, they enjoy spending time with their seven children and 15 grandchildren, and hiking.
The staff of Pro Trucker and Over the Road magazines would like to wish Steven and Sherry Zoschke continued success with Covenant Transport, Inc.
