Schneider National Implements Per Diem Pay Package

Daily expense allowance reimburses company drivers for time away from home

Green Bay, Wis. -- Dec. 13, 2005 -- Schneider National Inc., the nation's largest truckload carrier, today announced that it will implement a new per diem pay package option effective Jan. 1, 2006. Under the program, Schneider will reimburse eligible company drivers based on a portion of their mileage
rate, tax-free, for each night spent away from home lowering taxable
income and increasing take-home pay.

Per diem is defined as a "per day allowance" for daily expenses. Specifically, the program benefits Schneider company drivers handling mileage-based work. For each night "away from home" - a 24-hour period as defined by the IRS - drivers are reimbursed up to $52 tax-free. Schneider can offer this option to its fleet because over-the-road driving has a high frequency of time away from home.

"For drivers who are away from their families for extended periods of time, the per diem program can provide more take-home pay and is one more way that Schneider is offering choice and flexibility to its drivers."

Approximately 60-70 percent of Schneider's drivers will qualify for the program.
