Schneider National Leans on Experience to Launch Fuel-Hauling Service
Bulk Division Parlays National Emergency Assistance into New Offering
GREEN BAY, Wis. — March 17, 2008 — Schneider National, Inc., a premier provider of transportation, logistics and intermodal services, announced today it has added fuel-hauling capabilities to its bulk division. Stemming from the emergency fuel supply chain Schneider managed for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Department of Transportation during Hurricane Katrina recovery, this new service extends Schneider’s commitment to safety and excellence into the fuel-hauling sector.
“Schneider hauled over 1.5 million gallons of diesel and provided drivers, supervision and dispatch services for the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts,” said George Grossardt, vice president and general manager of Schneider National Bulk. “Within days we were able to put together a plan to fuel emergency vehicles and secure hard-to-find diesel storage containers. After a deeper look into this leg of the transportation sector, Schneider realized that offering this service to customers was the next natural extension in our current transportation offerings.”
Schneider’s research into the fuel-hauling industry revealed aging fleets around the country, new environmental regulations and fuel supply capacity issues. In a time where moving fuel efficiently has never been more important, Schneider will use experience from 45 years in the bulk division and its broad enterprise capabilities to provide fuel hauling in select markets of the country.
Schneider’s fuel-hauling services are offered in the Gulf Coast region (stretching from New Orleans, La., to Houston, Texas) and the upper Midwest. Schneider will also explore expanding its fuel-hauling capacity to the eastern portion of the U.S.
Grossardt added the company has made a significant capital investment in state-of-the-art tractors and multi-compartment fuel-hauling trailers, ISO 9001:2000 certification and highly trained drivers, allowing Schneider National to offer on-time, cost-effective and reliable fuel-hauling transportation services.
“Our training is second to none,” continued Grossardt. “We train all our driver associates at our own academies, where we emphasize the skills drivers must possess to safely and effectively do their jobs. Simply put, the talent and safety record of our drivers helps give us an edge over other carriers. And when it comes to hauling fuel, safety must always be at the top of the list.”
